alphadeath

One of the best things about my job is that I get to search out all kinds of great design inspiration. The work of illustrator Philip Tseng, I found to be particularly delicious, albeit morbid. The death of beautifully-illustrated fruits and vegetables is depicted in flashcard-style squares... all in a color palette that's, well, tasteful.

Have a fruitful day!

pantone cookies!

I wish I could say that I baked these, but alas I cannot. Kudos to Kim Neill on this genius gift that she gave to her clients; brightly colored cookies in a coordinating Pantone 196 C Tin! She even provides directions and a recipe so you can make them yourself.

The Pantone Matching System sets standards for color-matching in the printing industry. It's not only an essential tool for any designer who is serious about what they do, but it's become an icon in the industry as well. Oh, how we love our Pantone chips! I've shared a few of my favorites below.

Have a colorful day!

hyperactivitypography

Dear blog,

I'm sorry I've neglected you. To say I've been under the weather this week would be an understatement. On the plus side, I can check off one New Years' resolution.

I'm excited to share this delightful book, Hyeractivitypography. It cleverly illustrates typography in the form of a 1950's children's activity book. The exercises are hilarious, the design is perfection...what's not to love?

Have a healthy, hypertypographic day!

spring fever

It's a snowy, white day today... so I thought I'd share some colorful things to balance the grey.

First, these awesome paper butterflies by Hip and Clavacle. I love seeing what can be done with paper and a little imagination!

Also loved this bathtub couch from Design Sponge. If you don't have time for a bubble bath, the next best thing would be a sit in this repurposed tub! If you're looking for a little DIY inspiration, check out Design Sponge's before & after page. People submit photos of their (uninspiring) rooms and furniture finds, followed by some genius (and often quirky) design solutions! Every time I visit the site, I leave it wanting to restore an old piece of furniture or renovate a room. Not that it happens very often... but when  it does, I'll have oodles of ideas ready to act upon!

Have a colorful day,

pillow talk

I just stumbled across these charming pillows today on Etsy! I've never been one to go crazy over throw pillows, but these felt more like works of art.

simple things

Happy Tuesday! We spent a restful few days winding down after Christmas at the family cottage. It was just three of us and, despite the absence of snow, we made our own fun.

Since becoming a parent, I've discovered a new sense of joy in simple things. Like searching for sticks and pinecones for our little man to hold during a rickety wagon ride, and turning every corner in hopes of spotting a dog or other (small) furry creature.

If you've ever spent much time with a two-year-old, you'd know that this photo was taken early on in the wagon ride. The trip back was an "uphill, against the wind" kind of experience. Both literally and figuratively. And, while three days have passed and he's still talking about that wind, hopefully he remembers the unbridled joy he found in a stick when we first embarked on our little journey. Either way, I'm glad that I caught it on camera.

Have a simply lovely day!
